Industrial Land – Acquisition

ETP conducted a preliminary study, at a client's request, to assess the potential for contamination in industrial land. This contamination assessment study was requested in connection with the acquisition of a plot for the expansion of an industrial company's facilities.

The contamination study consisted of soil sampling at a depth of one meter, according to a defined sampling plan. Complementarily, broad-spectrum analyses (TerrAtest - analysis of over 200 contaminants) were performed.

The ETP team carried out sampling by semi-mechanically driving a half-tube sampler to the desired depth. This method is compatible with the state of the art and with the standards for this type of work and allows for cost rationalization. The underlying objectives for carrying out a preliminary study are thus met.

Laboratory results allow comparison with the reference values of the Technical Guide “Contaminated Soils – Technical Guide | Reference Values for Soil”(APA, 2019) and thus conclude whether there will be a need to further study.

In summary, this or another equivalent procedure is highly recommended when companies decide to acquire or develop industrial land, as information from the Portuguese Environment Agency.
