Industrial Client Environmental License

ETP supported its industrial client in the preparation of the Base Report required for the renewal of their Environmental License.

This activity falls under the scope of Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (Industrial Emissions Directive). Therefore, the requirements of Decree-Law No. 127/2013, August 30th are met. All entities that use, produce, or release relevant hazardous substances are covered by the obligation to prepare the baseline report. This is due to the potential for soil and groundwater contamination.

The ETP project team combined know-how from two business areas to create the base report. On one hand, we have the know-how from the Environmental Area through its specialized team in soil and groundwater contamination. On the other hand, this know-how is complemented by the knowledge held by Industrial Safety Area. This focuses primarily on identifying substances classified according to Regulation No. 1272/2008, of December 16 – classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures.

Report Base

The report prepared consisted of compiling all relevant information for characterizing the current situation of the facilities. In this way, a quantitative comparison was made between the current situation and the scenario resulting from the definitive cessation of activities. Thus, ETP carried out the environmental characterization of the site where the facilities are located and a study to identify historical contamination.

Additionally, the identification of substances, taking into account their characteristics, quantities present, and the preventive measures adopted, allowed for the determination of each substance's potential to cause contamination of soils and groundwater.

In summary, this environmental license renewal project leveraged and benefited from the existing synergies between ETP's two core business areas. These synergies, built over the years, enable ETP to provide excellent professional service in the Environmental Licensing area to clients who seek them.
